The famous singer Brandy Rayana Norwood was born on the 11th of February 1979 in McComb, Mississippi to parents Willie Norwood and Sonja. She was raised by a musical family, her father is a gospel singer as well as a choir director while her mother worked as a district manager for H&R Block. Brandy’s younger brother Ray J is also pursuing a career in the entertainment industry as an actor, and singer. Rapper Soop Dogg and wrestler Sasha Banks are her first cousins.  Brandy developed an interest in music at an early age and followed in the footsteps of her father, she began singing in the local church choir. By the age of 2, her dad led her to perform her first gospel solo. After spending a few years in Mississippi, in 1983 the family decided to move to Los Angeles for better opportunities.
